New music at two venues in the Bay Area.
Graham Lynch's Sappho Fragments, Paul Sánchez' the journey. Two song cycles featuring texts by the ancient Greek poet Sappho, back-to-back, performed by Far Song (Kayleen Sánchez, soprano, and Paul Sánchez, piano).
"The premiere of my ‘Sappho Fragments’, given by Kayleen and Paul Sánchez, was one of the best first performances I’ve ever been fortunate enough to have. Not only was there a complete technical command of the music and fabulous attention to detail, but there was also a deep understanding of what I’d written. The result was that the music came alive in exactly the way I intended, and was full of colour, tonal shading, and vitality. A beautiful performance." - Graham Lynch
David M. Gordon composed his Consolation New, for one pianist on two pianos, for Paul Sánchez, in 2018. Paul will be premiering the work in San Francisco on August 17.
Sánchez' new song cycle, Gothic Atonement, will be premiered by the composer himself alongside baritone Brandon Hendrickson, on August 18.
